Originally developed by ancient Hawaiians, surfing appeals to people due to the sport's unusual confluence of adrenaline, skill, and high paced maneuvering, an unpredictable backdrop that is, by turns, graceful and serene, violent and formidable, and the camaraderie that often develops among people in their common quest to conquer nature.

i will go with A

should start with surfing - so B and C out
e out - coz of Their

A and D - A is better option -
In D - a backdrop that is - seems wrong to me - apart from other things

A - Correct answer
B/C - Modifier issue, it is "surfing", not the appeal, that was was developed by Hawaiians.
D - Parallelism issue, the phrases "that is unpredictable" and "that is..gracefully and serenely" do not align
E - Pronoun issue, the use of 'their' seems to be referring to surfing, which is confusing and incorrect.

One more for A.

Actually D has modfier issues in the phrase modifying the noun "high paced maneuvering".
