A. Because of the Sun, which is 400 times larger than the Moon, but also 400 times farther away from Earth, so both the Sun and the Moon have the same apparent size in the sky.
B. The Sun, which is 400 times larger than the Moon, is also 400 times farther away from Earth, so the Sun and the Moon have the same apparent size in the sky.
C. The Sun and the Moon have the same apparent size in the sky because the Sun, which is 400 times larger than the Moon, and also 400 times farther away from Earth.
D. Four hundred times larger than the Moon and 400 times farther away from Earth, the Sun has the same apparent size in the sky as the Moon's.
E. Four hundred times larger than the Moon and also 400 times farther away from Earth, so the Sun in the sky has the same apparent size as the Moon.

IMO D

D has meaning issue.

The original sentence is clearly intended to convey that the reason why the Sun and the Moon have the same apparent size in the sky is because sun is 400 times farther away from Earth.

In D, this causal relationship is not coming out at all.

Hi - I have couple of queries

Option A has "but also" .

1) can we use "but also" even in absence of "not only" .

2)if we remove the which clause and re read the sentence.

because of sun..... but also 400 times farther away from sun

IMO above sentence does not makes any sense at all. Am i missing something important here??

B is the right answer here; so you are correct that A has issues.

Thank you Ashish!!

Can you please explain how B is correct?

If we remove the following clause
"which is 400 times larger than the Moon"

Sentence looks something as shown below.
The Sun, which is 400 times larger than the Moon, is also 400 times farther away from Earth,so the Sun and the Moon have the same apparent size in the sky.
The sun is ALSO 400 times farther away from Earth,so the Sun and the Moon have the same apparent size in the sky.

Don't you think it is awkward?

Why would you remove "which is 400 times larger than the Moon"?

Please note that "non-essential" just means it is not essential to the "core meaning"; we cannot just remove these clauses and still hope that the rest of the sentence would be grammatically correct.

A correct sentence from OG Verbal supplement:

Bluegrass musician Bill Monroe, whose repertory, views on musical collaboration, and vocal style influenced generations of bluegrass artists, also inspired many musicians, including Elvis Presley and Jerry Garcia, whose music differed significantly from his own.
