Which should refer to an preceding noun?

In C... Which is not required.. as which does not refer to anything ? Which is redundant in C.


Thats a trap.. in GMAT...we go for ( , which)... and sometimes fail to ask.. Which refers to what??

Thanks Brick, I found another error. I guess "to drop" should be parallel to " to grayish" and "to change" .

Is there any error in A besides that it uses passive voice ?

Hesham I'm very bad with grammar, but I eliminated A because I think what comes after the first comma should modify the first clause. Thus, i think ... the woolly adelgid ... does that ..

In D, how is the first part modifies the before the first comma in original sentence ? if it modifies it, then the sentence should maintain meaning without it. but it doesn't.

A is wrong because

by sucking sap from young twigs of hemlock tree, ( after the comma we need the peson or thing which is doing the action of sucking) hence that eliminates A AND B

IN C,D ,E

C - which here refers to tree growth, and makes the senten ce illogical, but mind you there are cases where which can refers to some noun which far ahead of ,

ex bridges of london, which are - here which refers to bridges

e- is wrong becase " this" cannot refer to entire clause

E should be the answer because the subject need to have clear antecedent and non of the other choices does this, including "A" the OA. I cna Reason E the same way you reasoned this question.
