This is taken from MGMAT SC guide:

8) After all the gardening we did, the sun shining on the flowerbeds make a beautiful sight

The book answer is:
After all the gardening we did, the sun shining on the flowerbeds makes a beautiful sight.

The book says to eliminate "shining on the flowerbeds". I first thought that shining was the verb here. Is there a way we can identify the correct verb used here? Thanks for your help.

10) A new textbook focused on recent advances in AI assigned by our instructor.

Ans:
A new textbook focused on recent advances in AI was assigned by our instructor.

Is assigned the verb here? And is textbook the subject?

Sri

In the sentence:
After all the gardening we did, the sun shining on the flowerbeds makes a beautiful sight.

the subject is THE SUN and the verb is MAKES.
"Shining on the flowerbeds" modifies the subject "the sun."

In the second sentence:
A new textbook focused on recent advances in AI was assigned by our instructor.

The subject is "a new textbook" and the verb is "was assigned."
