After all the gardening we did , the sun shining on the flowerbeds make a beautiful sight.

Whats wrong with this sentence? Please explain.

Can someone please help me identify the subject and the verb .

I believe this is from Manhattan GMAT SC guide.. it is subject verb agreement issue

After all the gardening we did , the sun [Subject]shining on the flowerbeds make[Verb] a beautiful sight.

The sun(subject) is singular in this case. Hence shouldn't it be makeS ????

Object : After all the gardening we did

Verb - make(I think, it should be "makes")

I don't feel anything wrong with that sentence.

For your knowledge : Subject is the one that can form a sentence alone.
"the sun shining on the flowerbeds make a beautiful sight." can for a sentence alone

"After all the gardening we did" cannot for a sentence...hence object.

Sentence can be written in many different formats ,but I think you are talking about the Subject -Verb agreement here.
The correct sentence would be


After all the gardening we did , the sun shining on the flowerbeds make a beautiful sight.

Look for the main verb here ... make.
now ask urself what make/makes a beautiful sight?
Is it "after all the gardening we did" or "the sun shining on the flowerbeds"
The subject is "the sun shining on the flowerbeds"
now remove the middleman "on the flowerbeds".

"The sun shining" is a singular subject.. so the verb must be singular and

The correct answer is
After all the gardening we did , the sun shining on the flowerbeds makes a beautiful sight.

No, the Subject is "sun shining", which is singular.. so "makes"
