I have been struggling to figure out how this anwer is performed.

2^(4-1)^2
------------
2^3-2

Answers
a). 2^8
b). 2^7
c). 2^5
d). 2^3
e). 2^1

The correct anwer is (a), but I have no idea how they got there!!

Simplify the powers first

So you get (4-1)^2 = 3^2 = 9 Therefore in the Numerator you get 2^9
Similarly in the Denominator you will get 2^1

Hence (2^9)/(2) = 2^8

I was under the impression that 2^(4-1)^2 did not equal 2^9. That 2^3^2 = 2^6 ???

Also shouldn't the denominator be 2^(3-2) rather than 2^3-2 ?

2^(3)^2 or 2^(3^2) = 2^9 ...
