Hi all
Need help with the following.
For all positive integers m, m is M= 3m when m is odd and M=1/2m when m is even. What is the value of 9 * 6?

The answer is 27 but I have no clue of how.

Thnx in advance

9 =27
6=3

9 * 6=81
81 is odd and is of the form 3*27

I think the question is incomplete. What is the source?
it is not given that 9 * 6 will give some value in "BAR"

If the question just asks for 9 * 6, answer should be 81 only.

There is an issue with the question. It can only be 27 if the question specifically stated M = 81, and asked what m was and clearly stated that m is an odd number! If its not stated that m has to be an odd number, then m could be 27 or 162.

If anyone doesnt understand why this has to be the case, let me know.

This is the question from GMATPREP.

The question is For all positive integers m, m is [M]= 3m when m is odd and [M]=1/2m when m is even. What is the value of [9] *[ 6]?

[9]*[6]=81.This is right

But the answer options are in the format [M].

81=[27]

So the answer is [27].

mbokhari,

Always pls post the question correctly..
