Many experts agree that the rise in the number of street crimes reported due to increased unemployment and homelessness is a problem that can be solved only by providing jobs and homes to those who need them.

A) same as question

B) rising number of reported street crimes due to increasing unemployment and homelessness

C) rise in the number of street crimes reported because of increased unemployment and homelessness

D) rise in the number of reported street crimes, which is attributable to increased unemployment and homelessness

E) rise in the number of street crimes reported is because of increased unemployment and homelessness which

A- "due to" is wrong

B- Misuse of gerunds and "due to" is misused

C- Correct

D- this needs a comma to close the non-essential phrase

E- "is because" is always wrong

Hehe .....another from the same book. I posted this one to check if my answer matches with others and it does for this one too :)

IMS book says D is the OA

Can you please explain more for "D- this needs a comma to close the non-essential phrase" Where it should have comma? There is already a comma before which in D

If they are going to say that D is the correct answer, then it would have to read:

Many experts agree that the rise in the number of reported street crimes, which is attributable to increased unemployment and homelessness, is a problem that can be solved only by providing jobs and homes to those who need them.

You have to close the phrase. Option D doesn't have the ending comma, so the modifier is never closed, making that answer choice invalid.
