Starting with the 60 day study plan from Beat the Gmat!!

Hi,
I am starting with the 60 day study plan that BTG sends and would be giving the GMAT on 15th of Jan 2014 most probably..

I had earlier registered for the 60 day study plan but could not follow it as I was occupied with other pressing matters.
Hopefully this time there would not be any lack of dedication and effort as I want to apply for the 2014 fall session at various universities.

For starters I have purchased the Manhattan GMAT's Complete Strategy Guide Set (5th Edition) and the OG 13.

Would keep you guys posted on the progress and any troubleshooting questions that I come across.

Hi b.ankit_09,

In your earlier attempts at studying, did you take any practice CAT tests? If you haven't taken any yet, then you might consider taking one early on in your studies. The scores from that exam will give you a sense of your "starting level" and what areas you should spend some extra time on.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but hopefully my question will build on the existing topic.

I signed up for the 60 day plan last night but haven't received my first day's instructions yet. I'm not sure what test I should do prior to any studying to get an idea of my base level. Should I use up one of the 2 free exams in the GMATprep software from mba.com? Or are there better alternatives?

For what it's worth, I usually suggest people "save" the two GMAT Prep's until they are further along in their study plan -- one around the halfway point, and the other at the two-thirds point. It's close enough to the test date so that you can get a good idea of what your actual score range is, but far enough out so that you can exhaust all the additional GMATPrep questions you don't see on the CATs (either through a PDF file of the total Q's, or via resets) and have time to thoroughly review them.

For just a baseline practice test, any of the free PT's offered by MGMAT, Veritas Prep, or Kaplan would be my suggestion. They aren't as close to your real GMAT score as the GMATPrep, but you'll get a good starting ballpark.

He's in charge of the Study Guide email program.

The Study Guide has you take a practice (baseline) test on Day 3 (here's an outline of all 60 emails: https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/gmat-guide-outline)

Keep in mind that you can take the official GMATPrep tests multiple times. Yes, you will see some repeated questions, but not that many. If you're interested, I wrote an article for BTG on this topic: https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2010/03/ ... iple-times
