I am looking for the most efficient strategy to take the test in 60-90 days and achieve a score of 740. Here are the facts so far:

- without ever studying anything, I got a 640 (Q42/V35) on an online practice test

- would like to spend less than $3k on prep

- Time efficiency and a top tier score is more important than money for me

-I'm very undisciplined in my studying independently

So I was thinking of reading the official study book and hiring an independent private tutor (there's a wait list for manhattan gmat private tutors and the others don't seem worth it) for eight 2 hour sessions (weekly) to keep me on track. Would anyone suggest that a group class with a smattering of private tutoring would be better? Or no private tutor at all?

Also, any tutor recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

c gmat is one exam which is very learnable.
now it depend on u .if you are comfortable with group then go for roup as it will be little less cost
or if u need private help which i personaaly feel is not imprtant.now coming back to your question.if u think you can manage on your own this is d best way buy manhattan material and start preparing
kaplan mgmat are the best thing available
Ideation without execution is delusion

I think 3k is below the market rate for those looking for 740 with as little effort as possible.

I think tutors work best when you study a fair amount by yourself. If you have a hard time motivating yourself to study you might want to go with a classroom experience because you'll probably study more (since most students study before each class)

Thanks a lot for the responses.

So it sounds like private tutors don't lay out a detailed study plan with weekly assignments like a group class would. That kind of structure is very important in my opinion. Perhaps a better route would be a group class (manhattan gmat) and a couple of private sessions to brush up on my shortcomings as the test date nears.

Has anyone taken this route?

Private tutors can (depending on the tutor) provide study plans and assignments, but classes are a more economical and fairly efficient route to building a foundation for your studies
