Since most people would rather talk than listen, there will always be miscommunication

In today's world where everything is so fast, it is very difficult to get time for anything.Everyone is running behind something or the other. It seems that no one has time for others. In this fast paced world communication has also suffered a lot. In the above statement author claims that most people would rather talk than listen, there by causing miscommunication. As the author claims , if we just talk and dont listen to what others are saying, its bound to cause miscommunicaiton.

Primary reason for miscommunicaiton is that people today do not have time to listen to what others want to say. Since a person does not listen to what other is trying to convey it results in misunderstanding and which results in miscommuncaiton. There are so many examples in our everyday life where if we anaylze we will find that the miscommunication occurred because the person was not ready to listen. It is a human tendency to speak more than listen. For example in our organization , there was one manager who had lot of miscommunication with all his colleagues. He was never ready to listen to us or any of his colleagues. He would rather talk and that resulted in one way communication. This tendency of just talking and do not want to listen to others resulted in total miscommunication.

Another reason for this miscommunication to happen is the human psychology. Human being feel more confident when they speak rather than when they listen. Because of this psychology human beings always try to put across their ideas and their thoughts first and do not want to listen to what others are trying to say.Because of this feeling of loosing out to others, most people would rather talk than listen, there by causing miscommunication.

For communcation to be smooth and free from any hickups or roadblocks it has to be a two way communicaiton. It is like a street with both ways open and if the communication takes place in only one direction, it results in accidents. Every individual wants to put across his or her ideas to others. With exchange of ideas the communication becomes better. If an individual speaks and listen to what others are saying then there is a better harmony among both sides. For example if you are asked to have a debate in your school or college and the opposite side is receptive to your point of view than there is a healthy communicaiton which flows between two sides. Both sides point of view is heard and even the audience get to know different thought process. But on the other hand if one side does not allow the other to speak, then there is total cacophony. Both sides try to talk and would not listen to others, this results in complete mess.

In sum we can say that for a proper communication to take place both side should respect the other by listening to what other side has to say. If people would talk rather than listen, there will be total miscommunication. Communication is very important and proper communication is in itself a technique. Todays corporate world pays lot of attention to communication and therefore organizations today encourage its people to listen. Listening is the first step towards proper communicaiton. Therefore if most people would rather talk than listen, there will always be miscommunication
