guys

apologize if this is a very basic question but I was going to through the official book on page 141 and found an equation step that I don't get

1/6 + 1/R = 1/4

The next line shows
R+6/6R = 1/4

How did they reach the 2nd line? I know about bringing both sides of the equation to a common denominator but don't get how they are doing this

This follows basic addition of fractions:

1/6 + 1/R

A common multiple of 6 and R would be 6R. Therefore, multiply the first fraction by R and the second by 6:

1(R)/6(R) + 1(6)/R(6)

Now you have a common denominator, so join the fraction:

[(1)(R)+(1)(6)]/R(6) = (R+6)/6R
