4-n @ 6
4-n @ 5

Which of the following symbols should be substituted for @ to make both of the statements above true for all integers n such that -2 < n <= 3?

a. <=
b. <
c. =
d. >
e. >=

Is the answer B)< ?

IMO B

given that
-2 < n <= 3

so if you put the all values of n there. then the equation will be satisfied.

and please make sure you are using n (-1, 0, 1, 2, 3 ) Only. -2 is the only value that is eliminating the A option.

The answer is A.

suppose we take n as -1 then,
1) 4-(-1) @ 6 => 5 < 6.
2) 4-(-1) @ 5 => 5 = 5.

then we take 3,
1) 4-(3) @ 6 => 1<6.
2) 4-(3) @ 5 => 1<5.

All the values between -2 and 3 including 3 will satisfy these two equations with @ replaced with <=.

Thanks - I also plugged in -1 and got 5 but was confused by the satisfy both statements line.

hi,
-2<n<=3.
So, -3 <= -n <2
i.e. 4-3 <= 4-n < 4+2.
Hence, 1<=4-n<6
i.e. 1>=4-n<=5.

Hence, A

IMO A
-2<n<=3
when n=-1,4-n = 5
when n=3,4-n=1
Thus 4-n<=6
4-n<=5
