Sorry - I didn't realize the square root sign was eliminated from my cut and paste. Eitherway, the full question is below.


Is x > y?

(1) sq rt (x) > y

(2) x3 > y

x>y?

stmt1,

sqrt(x)>y

x=16,y=2,x>y

x=1/4,y=1/3,x<y

Insufficient

stmt2,

x^3>y

x=2,y=1,x>y

x=2,y=3,x<Y

Insufficient

Combining 1 and 2,

x cannot be -ve as sqrt(x) wont hold.x cannot be fraction as stmt1 fails.

If x is 0, then y has to be negative to satisfy both.X>Y

If x>0 both statements are satisfied.
