Last week local shrimpers held a news conference to take some credit for the resurgence of the rare Kemp's ridley turtle, saying that their compliance with laws requiring that turtle-excluder devices be on shrimp nets protect adult sea turtles.

(A) requiring that turtle-excluder devices be on shrimp nets protect

(B) requiring turtle-excluder devices on shrimp nets is protecting

(C) that require turtle-excluder devices on shrimp nets protect

(D) to require turtle-excluder devices on shrimp nets are protecting

(E) to require turtle-excluder devices on shrimp nets is protecting

Between B and C, would go with B..wats the OA?

When you see such sentences, remove all disposable parts of the sentence.

Which one is correct? what do you think?

1) their compliance with laws protect adult sea turtles
2) their compliance with laws is protecting adult sea turtles.
3) their compliance with laws are protecting adult sea turtles.

1st and 3rd are wrong because of S-V agreement issue.

Pick B.

Their is plural , then how can we say that B is correct.

or is it that

Their Compliance - subject here is compliance

IMO B.

Guys, sometimes we worry abt s-v agreement, llsm and so many other things that we forget one very basic thing, i.e. Tenses...

The action here is continuos, the statement is not a generalization but stated for an ongoing cause and effect. The compliance with the law is still protecting the turtles....

Compliance is singular, leaving B and E. B is the better one.

Subject is the noun phrase - "their compliance with laws"
