Should i just get some certifications

I have couple of concerns, maybe you can open my mind. I have an under grad in Engineering Tech. Through out my college i worked 65 hrs a week btw two to three jobs because of my financial situation. Hence i ended up with a low gpa of 2.7. Looking at MBA requirements for any decent college discourage me from trying. I want to get into NYU (i know almost impossible task), but that is what i am aiming for, i know the most reasonable choice would be Rutgers. Below is my profile can you suggest what should i do, what GMAT score i should aim for, to get into either school.

On a note english is my second language, although i came to this country 8 years ago but i still struggle with grammer. Would love to hear from people from south east asia i.e pakistan, india bangla desh.

Dear eseller01,

I would not say your situation is impossible for NYU, but you are correct that it will be a "larger hill to climb" than another program. The GMAT score can help balance your undergraduate GPA, so the higher the score, the better. I think you should probably aim for a score over a 650 in general, but in the 700s for the best chance at a top 30 program. Regardless of where you apply, it is imperative you distinguish yourself from the other engineers in the applicant pool. Perhaps highlight your entrepreneurship experience, leadership, and teamwork skills? Likewise, you will want to write the optional essay on why your undergraduate grades were not higher and how you will perform at a higher level in business school.
