Should I apply just to test my profile?

Hi,

I intent to apply in the early action round in October 2014. I just started studying to GMAT and haven't any essay or recommendations letter yet. But I could have it all ready by February.

That's because I am planning to take GMAT in mid February to apply in Round 3 (around March 2014) to schools like Kelley, Kenan-Flagler, Darden and Vanderbilt, just to test my profile strengths and weaknesses and be more ready to apply in October 2014.

Would it harm or help?

Nope you should not.
There are enough experts on this website that can give you a fair and honest evaluation of your chances without you need to do the dozens if not hundreds of hours of work it takes to prepare several good applications.

Also, if you aren't an American I'd suggest against applying R3 (and even if you are, for the most part I'd suggest against it).

Also, if you do not prepare good applications (i.e. because you are testing your profile) then you could hurt your chances as a reapplicant (instead of applying fresh in October 2014).

Hi Jon. Thank you for your reply.

I am Brazilian (born) but also have Portuguese Citizenship. I hold two passports.

About R3, I heard that by this round there isn't to many space in class, such as fewer scholarships left. Is that it?

I also would like to ask if is there any difference in my admittance or scholarships chances between my two citizenships. If I have more chances to get a scholarship if a use either my Brazilian or my Portuguese citizenship.

By the way, how schools treat reapplicants?

They have more chances by staying in a wait-list, or do they have fewer chances because they weren't admitted once, so they wouldn't be never admitted?

Schools vary in their treatment of re-applicants. But that presupposes your initial application is of high quality. If the initial application is poor, you will do worse as a reapplicant then had you not previously applied.
