I have just submitted my applications to my top schools round 1. I work with a few folks who attended the schools in which I am applying. I also have a few close friends who are current students or recent grads of those schools as well.

Is it appropriate/necessary to ask those close contacts to write an "off the record" letter on my behalf. Obviously I don't want to inundate admissions readers...

Would it help or hurt me?

Hi

Its perfectly appropriate.

You should use this opportunity to hog some points. Just make it look a sincere interest by alumni/current student. If possible make it look a long time association.

Get it drafted properly.It works.

It can help a wee bit, especially if they are very excited to do so. It doesn't have to be that long, just to state that "You'd be a great part of the team".
