I'm a 33 years old french working in the aerospace business as a software research engineer. I completed my MSc in computer science 8 years ago.
I now feel the need to change my professional orientation and I think that a MBA is the best way to do so.
I did the free MGMAT CAT test and scored a poor 580 (Q:43 & V:27). However, it's not all that bad considering that I started the test at 11:30 PM after a full day of work, I made the effort to use the full 60 minutes for both essays, fix the time limits to 75 minutes for both quantitative and verbal sections, had 10 minutes left at the end of the quantitative section, and had 19 minutes left at the end of the verbal section.
I do know that I can greatly improve that score (several tests had evaluated my level as C1 in CEFRL, I now need to pay more attention to grammatical details).
My long term plan is to work on a weekly basis on each quantitative and verbal sub-sections for at least 3 months.
Is it a good idea? Do you think I should alternate quantitative and verbal weeks? Or do a full set of verbal weeks, then a full set of quantitative weeks? Do you think that I should go in some of the GMAT Prep class right now or wait for a couple of months (and associated couple of CAT results)?
I'm leaving to greece by the end of the week, staying on a boat for two consecutive weeks. I plan to take the MGMT flash cards along with the ones from Eric Bahn, plus few english books (for informal verbal training) such as "The Hitch-Hiker and other short-stories" from Roald Dahl, "Thirteen Modern English and American Short Stories" from Bradbury, Capote, Green, etc. and "Terror Stalks the Class Reunion" from Mary Higgins Clark.
Do you have any good advice or better book proposal for this short period which is like the starting-block of my GMAT training period?
