The set S consists of all multiples of 6. Which of the following sets are contained within S?

I. The set of all multiples of 3
II. The set of all multiples of 9
III. The set of all multiples of 12

the answer should be C ,because multiples of 3 are 3,6,9,12,15,18,21.....where 3,9,15 and 21 are not multiples of 6. so I is discarded

multiples of 9 are 9,18,27,36,45,54,63....where 9,27,45 and 63 not multiples of 6 ...so II also discarded .

multiples of 12 are 24, 36, 48, 60, 72 ..all the multiples of 12 are multiples of 6 ..so only 3 can satisfies the question ..thus, answer is C.

the answer should be A

Its given set S consists of all multiples of 6

Every multiple of 6 is also a multiple of 3 therefore A.The set with ALL multiples of 6 does not contain all multiples of 9 or 12. It may contain some multiples but not all.The word to note in the answer choices is ALL

I. The set of all multiples of 3
II. The set of all multiples of 9
III. The set of all multiples of 12

I couldnt make a more silly mistake(hope so atleast).

Its C rightly pointed out by Naga and Truplayer.


OMG is ok as long as we dont make the same silly mistake in the real test.

:D

Lessons learnt: Re read the question before confirming answer choice to ensure the answer u r picking is the one thats asked in the question and there were no misinterpretations or haste in doing so...
