I hace come across sentences with based on /based of.. and they always seem to be wrong.. I am wondering if someone knows when exactly are we suppose to use them .. what is right way to fix it. I just adding a sample sentence so that you all can have an idea of what I am talking about ..

Based on several Manuscripts that date back to the middle ages, Historians believe that..........

Here Use of Based on is not right ..

Any thoughts??

For the most part, "based on" refers to some conclusion/theory reached using other information.
So we might say that John's theory of relativity is based on observations.
We certainly can't say that a person is based on something.
