As sources of electrical power, windmills now account for only about 2,500 megawatts nationwide, but production is almost expected to double by the end of the year, which would provide enough electricity for 1.3 million households.

A. almost expected to double by the end of the year, which would provide
B. almost expected that it will double by the end of the year, thus providing
C. expected that it will almost double by the end of the year to provide
D. expected almost to double by the end of the year and thus to provide
E. expected almost to double by the end of the year, which would thus be providing

The answer is D.

A,E have a modifier ',which....' . Which always modifies a noun that precedes the comma. Here , it would mean that the end of year will provide electricity.So that is bizzare.


B,C have bizzare sentence forms. production is expected that....It is bizzare.

I guessed D too

A,E contained which and'which' modifies noun not phrases or clauses so A and E are out.
Next B,C do seem awkward so D is the reasonable choice but i need a logical reason to eliminate B and C

Care to share your thoughts on that because their has to be one.

Okay I looked up the list of idioms and found that the correct idiom is "Expect to" not "Expect that" so we can eliminate B and C on that context. Thanks for your help.
