Sentence correction - Help

by jerryragland » Wed Jan 27, 2010 7:20 am
Hi all,

This is my first post to this forum. I recently started my GMAT preparation. I come from a non English speaking background. I getting comfortable with the other sections of verbal but facing a lot of problems with sentence correction section. It's bad to a point sometimes I don't understand the answer explanation :-)

Please point me in the right direction or give me some pointers on how to proceed.

Thanks in advance.

Jerry.

English is my first language and this is the toughest section for me, so don't worry about English being your second language. If I had to do it over again. I would go through a book on grammar first, before I even went through any GMAT specific materials. You need to understand sentence structures, objects, subjects, predicates, and all of that before you can begin to understand how the GMAT will attempt to trick you. I would go through a good grammar book first and then purchase the Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction Guide and go through that at least twice.

I've personally read this one

https://www.amazon.com/Longman-Writers-B ... 69&sr=1-17

Its solid, but I have heard good things about this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Grammar-Bible-Eve ... 429&sr=1-1

I would have gotten that one, but my test is friday so I don't have time to read anything new.
