This post is also my introduction to the wonderful beatthegmat community. I have been lurking around for several months reading insightful posts from the various members. Now, I officially join you guys to Beat the GMAT.
I have come a long way already. Several months ago when I began studying, my first CAT result was a mere 340. I had the pleasure to see it rise from that to 600, which I earned on test day last week. However, I am determined to score in the 700s. The last 100 points will most likely be the most challenging, but definitely doable.
CAT 1: 340
CAT 2: 440
CAT 3: 540
CAT 4: 590
Official GMAT Practice Test 1: 610
GMAT #1 (TEST DAY): 600 (42Q, 30V) -- I do not know my AWA results yet.
Weaknesses: Based upon my CAT results, my weaknesses in quant are algebra and number properties. However, these questions types come up more in DS, and that is my true underlying weakness in quant. Algebra and number properties on the surface are not tricky, but DS can be. And in verbal, my weaknesses are critical reasoning and sentence correction. I always finished the verbal section in time, or worst case scenario I have to guess on the last two questions. Whereas, on the quant portion, I have never completed it in time yet. On test day, for example, I had to guess on the last seven questions since it is worse to leave the question blank, correct?
Current Resources: I took the Kaplan GMAT course online, I own the Official Guide 12th Edition and I also have the Princeton's "Cracking the GMAT" book. I am willing to purchase more material, but I am unsure of what to do. Based upon my research, Kaplan, Princeton and Manhattan GMAT dominate with positive reviews. I have three more months until my next test day. What should I get?
Once one has all the proper resources, what's the best way to go about studying for the GMAT. I've read the monthly plans that were posted in the forums, but did you do anything differently? If yes, why?
In addition to that, if you'd like to recommend anything else, you have my undivided attention. I really want to beat the GMAT!
