Sam , I got why B is correct but have a doubt in C. Cant i interpret C ( maintaining dirt roads costs twice as much as paved roads do ) as maintaining dirt roads costs twice as much as maintaining paved roads do . What i am doing here? The thread talks about Rock, Water dwellers and Centipedes. If Rock has mud flats that were occasionally covered by river water, then Rock was made underwater. This finding raises the question: "how come centipedes were found on Rocks?" So the point is important. On the other hand, point D...

Pemdas wrote: CGF could be any fraction of the expression above, among the answer choices it's B or E to understand which one is correct we note GCF is the greatest common factor and 0<a<b, hence it's (r^b)*(s^b) As 0<a<b i.e. a is common. So greatest common factor should be (r^a)*(s^a) Please corr...

Calculate some of the initial terms to deduce the pattern:
x1 = 3
x2 = 5
x3 = 2
x4 = -3
x5 = -5
x6 = -2
x7 = 3
x8 = 5

We can see 6 terms are summing up to 0.

So 500/6 will give us remainder 2.
So answer should be sum of first 2 terms = 3 + 5 = 8
Ans D.

Sorry Pemdas, I think otherwise. There is no need to consider 17 odd or 3 even or vice -versa. The question itself says 1/4 of the numbers are even i.e 5 Even and 15 odd. Odd numbers are rounded up and even are rounded down. So for odd number valus increased and for even it decreases. Minimum unit d...

Thanks Mike.

I know this in not a GMAT question, was just curious to see your approach in this scenario :)

For eg: Let's say there are 7 heads out of 15. So which is the convinient way:
15C2 - (a. 14C2 + b. 13C3 + ... + c 8C7)

or some alternative.

Sorry, if I had put on test :)

Hi, I don't know how you really want to solve the problem by algebra. Hope following helps: 1) x divided by 100 has a remainder of 30 x = 100K + 30 where 1 <= K <= 9 where K is a positive integer and less than equal to 9 (because x is 3 digit number) Put different values for k and check if ten's dig...

@Sam: Yes, tangent intersect the circle. Intersect means - Any points of contact. The answer to the question is E indeed. A) Does not say anything about line. B) Does not say anything about Circle. Using Both, 1) We still don't know the slope of the line. 2) The distance of point (3,3) is way more t...

Hi Mike,

Great Approach to go for this question.
My question is that how would you approach this problem when number of tosses are 15 ?

The enumeration will take ages to get the answer. Is there any other approach ?

I also used to have this problem. Please have a below link..hopefully it will help: http://www.beatthegmat.com/rc-strategy-need-help-t102243.html Also follow the following strategy: - Take 3-4 minutes of time to read the passage. Don't skim. - Make a map - Bullet points and theme of the each para. -...

Total number of balls = 2 + 3 + 4 = 9
Probability to get 2 balls = 9C2

Probability to get 2 Red balls = 2C2
Probability to get 2 White balls = 3C2
Probability to get 2 Black balls = 4C2

Probability to get 2 balls of same color = (2C2 + 3C2 + 4C2)/ 9C2 = 5/18

Here is a goacha. The question does not implicitly states that. Normally environment has 78% of nitrogen and most in inert form. Although N2 in this form is not useful (passage does not mention any use), it is not harmful as well, and is an integral part of air. As you rightly said, increase in fixi...
