Calculate some of the initial terms to deduce the pattern:
x1 = 3
x2 = 5
x3 = 2
x4 = -3
x5 = -5
x6 = -2
x7 = 3
x8 = 5
We can see 6 terms are summing up to 0.
So 500/6 will give us remainder 2.
So answer should be sum of first 2 terms = 3 + 5 = 8

An interesting question that I think might be giving people trouble because of the way it is typed. Those Ns should be Subscripts: ie. the sequence is defined by the following:
The nth term is the difference between the (n-1)th term and the (n-2)th term.
This might make MakeUrTimeCount's perfect explanation make more sense!
