Scientists believe that the great white shark has evolved from the megalodon, a prehistoric shark measuring over 50 feet in length.

The sentence is talking about the current species of great white shark. The evolution from megalodon is no longer happening/just happened.

megalodon -> great white -> something else in the future

See another example from 800 score

Though this choice has errors, 'appear to have' appears in all choices.
