Scientist: A greenhouse gas, for example, carbon dioxide, forms a transparent layer that traps solar heat beneath it in the earth's atmosphere. Atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide are currently increasing, causing the climate to warm-an effect that is predicted by at least one computer model of the greenhouse effect. But the warming that has occurred is a great deal less than what would be expected based on the model. Therefore, _______.

Which of the following most logically completes the scientist's argument?

A. better measurements of atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide are needed
B. the definition of "greenhouse gas" should probably be reconsidered
C. there are factors besides the increase in greenhouse-gas emissions contributing to the warming of the climate
D. the computer model of the greenhouse effect must be incorrect in some respect
E. the likely consequences of any warming of the climate are unlikely to be much less damaging than predicted

Premise: A greenhouse gas such as carbon dioxide, forms a transparent layer that traps solar heat beneath it in the earth's atmosphere.

Conclusion: The atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide are currently increasing, causing the climate to warm-an effect that is predicted by at least one computer model of the greenhouse effect. Hence, the warming that occurred is far less than what should be expected based on the model.

Option A - Incorrect:
This is incorrect because the computer model was used in predicting the climate to the warming effect and has nothing to do with the measurement of atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide.

Option B - Incorrect:
This claim is not true because reconsidering the definition of the "greenhouse gas" doesn't align with the scientist's argument.

Option C - Incorrect:
According to the passage "the currently increasing atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide is the cause of the climate to warm-an effect. Hence, we are not sure if there are other factors besides this that contributed to the warming of the climate.

Option D - Correct:
This option seems to validate the scientist's argument the more as a result of the increasing atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide causing the warming that has occurred which is a great deal less than what would be expected based on the model.

Option E - Incorrect:
This claim is irrelevant because we are not concerned about the likely consequences of any warming of the climate. Hence, it doesn't complete the scientist's argument.
