This is a question that establishes the usage of 'with' and 'when'. It is important to know that when an action happens simultaneously, in sequence the use of when is important.

Option A :- Incorrect
This option is incorrect in that it is connected with 'with' and thus it is not required.

Option B :- Incorrect
This suffers similar situation as option A above. The use of 'with' to illustrate an event happening should be 'when ' rather than 'with'.

Option C :- Incorrect
'Rather than consuming' is illogical and does not follow parallelism.

Option D :- correct
This option completes the option C above and made it more appropriate. 'Rather than consumed' this follows proper parallelism and logical.

Option E :- Incorrect
This totally changes the meaning of the sentence and does not correlate.
