Schools with 4 rounds

by Ohiostatebuckeye » Sat Jan 19, 2013 11:29 am
I was checking deadlines for top 20 schools and found Cornell , UNC and UT Austin have 4 deadlines (2nd round in dec and 3rd round in jan ) compared to rest of the schools with 3 deadlines. I was wondering if there is any difference in applying 2nd vs 3rd round to these 3 schools? i.e. at schools which have 3 deadlines ,almost everyone advises against applying in round 3 as only few seats are left and as such it becomes the most competitive round. However, these 3 schools have 4 deadlines and I am kind of lost. Is it that Round 1st and 4th are similar to 1st and 3rd rounds at schools with 3 rounds and 2nd and 3 rd rounds are like 2nd round at schools with 3 deadlines or if 1st and 2nd rounds at these 3 schools are similar to 1st and 2nd rounds at schools with 3 deadlines and 3rd and 4th rounds are similar to 3rd round ??

Long story short, since 4th round is their last round, will I be at a disadvantage if I choose to apply in 3rd round at these 3 schools versus 2nd round ?

Usually it is LAST round that is the big noon. So for example in schools with SIX rounds it is number six you want to avoid (unless you have good reasons) and likewise round four in the fourth round. Otherwise, you should have reasonable chances.
