Except for a focus group study that the company itself undertook, no marketing research was done to assess the brand's recognizability among the 18- to 24-year-old demographic.

(A) Except for a focus group study that the company itself undertook

(B) Except for a focus group study with the company itself undertaking it

(C) Excepting a focus group study that the company itself undertook

(D) With the exception of a focus group study with the undertaking done by the company itself

(E) Besides a focus group study being undertaken by the company itself


Can anyone explain the usage of "besides" along with the answer explanation?

The correct answer is a, since it is not redundant and stylistically correct.
