Dear Mitch,

Could you please explain why choice C is wrong? I understand that it is important to have the logical subject in the sentence containing "unlike".

The subject in choice C is mountain yellow-legged tree frogs. Also, I think the verbing modifier "thus being restricted" is correct here to express the result of "taking 3 to 4 years to reach adulthood."

Is it because of the insertion of the phrase " in the Sierra Nevada"? Is it because this phrase changed intended meaning of the sentence?

Thanks for your time in advance.

On the GMAT, COMMA + VERBed -- or COMMA + adverb + VERBed -- generally serves to modify the immediately preceding noun or noun phrase.
In D, COMMA + thus restricted seems to refer to adulthood (the immediately preceding noun), implying that ADULTHOOD is thus restricted to deeper bodies of water.
Not the intended meaning.
Eliminate D.
