Secondly, in C "they" can refer back to either "parents","principals" or "course materials" . I think in the correct answer there is ambiguity in which noun "they" refers. I also tried to search a thread on noun reference by pronoun but could not find one. Can you suggest me a thread in which the concept of pronoun reference is given with good examples. Thanks a lot.

But can you clarify me why pronoun "they" is not ambiguous in its reference to preceding nouns. I have problem in the pronoun reference. I cannot decide when it is correctly referring and when it is not.Like here D has pronoun "they" which has 3 nouns to refer back . They are "parents", "principals" and "course materials" . I think here they can refer back to any of the three so why there is no pronoun reference error in the correct answer. Can you help me in this topic?
