SC - hygeine(Manhattan Flash Card Doubt)

Hi All,

In the Manhattan SC flash cards available at:

https://www.manhattangmat.com/pdf/FlashC ... e_2009.pdf

page#86....

the sentence given is
"My child has better hygiene than those of my sister; neither of her boys ever seem to wash
their hands."

Flash cards say the above is wrong....because of "those"

The same is corrected as

"My child has better hygiene than my sister's children; neither of her boys ever seems to wash his hands."

Can someone please tell why do why can't we simply change "those" to "that"....is it because...that can refer to hygiene as well ?

This is a pretty classic parallelism error problem.

Anytime you see the word "better" or "more" think comparison and check to see if the two things being compared are equal.

The pronoun "those" is incorrect because it compares the child to the sister when it logically needs to compare child to the sister's children.

The pronoun "that" wouldn't be correct either because it does the same thing.
