E is the best answer to this question.


a)sounds passsive
b)past perfect and present continous and as if it were points more towards earthquake then the city.
c)destroyed numerous buildings and the belief sounds like earthquake destroyed both city and belief.
d)belief of the city sounds like city has its own philosophy.
