The best answer is D. The bacteria is derived ...not what other answer mean...

What is OA?Please explain

Can experts please give their two cents on this problem?

The OA is C
I see why ABD are wrong but please explain C & E. The explanation given says that E is idiomatic as "believe to be" or "believe that x" construction is not followed.

OA should not be C. Scientist believe means they still believe. So the bacterial is still believed to be causing the problem. Bacteria is plural. So A should be it. looks like this question is prepared from a CR question with same sentence.

Here, derives (singular) does not agree with bacteria (plural).
Eliminate E.
