If anyone at InterCom Financial Advisers would have anticipated, or even suspected, the impending sale of the Koniko kelp processing plant, they would have advised owners of Koniko stock to unload all shares immediately.
(A) If anyone at InterCom Financial Advisers would have anticipated
(B) Had anyone at InterCom Financial Advisers anticipated
(C) If any people at InterCom Financial Advisers would have anticipated
(D) If any people at InterCom Financial Advisers had anticipated
(E) If anybody at InterCom Financial Advisers anticipated


correct answer - d

Doubts-
1.The condition described here is a case that never happened in the past, so it requires a 'had ....would have' construction.I'm not clear why 'b' is not correct
2.Is 'any people' a correct construction.
3.Is 'any people' singular or plural.

correct answer - d

I think B is wrong because of the use of "anyone" as "anyone" is singular and plural "they" is illogically refering to this anyone.......

anyone, anybody ----> singular so A, B, E are out.

any people----> plural so C & D are contenders.

C--> wrong use of tense. Instead of "would have", "had" is the right choice(since past perfect is required.)...Correct construction:"IF Past Perfect, THEN Conditional Perfect."

Hence D.

I am not yet clear how 'any people' is singular.

If I say,

If any student has completed the work, he/they can leave //singular so must be he - right ?
If any students has/have completed the work, they can leave. //singular or plural - ???
