After moving to Switzerland in the 1890's, Albert Einstein attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, receiving in-depth training in quantitative analysis and developing a foundation for his future work in mathematical physics.

A. attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, receiving in-depth training in quantitative analysis and developing

B. attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, receiving in-depth training in quantitative analysis and developed

C. attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, received in-depth training in quantitative analysis, and he developed

D. attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, received in-depth training in quantitative analysis, developing

E. attending the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, receiving in-depth training in quantitative analysis, and developing
The OA is "A". Why B is wrong. Why can't i say that he attended resulting in "receiving..." AND developed....
Is B wrong just bcz a "," is missing before the "and developed".
Case of parallelism here. Einstein attended the school which aided in receiving X and developing Y.

A. attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, receiving in-depth training in quantitative analysis and developing
maintains parallelism, receiving ..developing
B. attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, receiving in-depth training in quantitative analysis and developed
Incorrect. receiving..developed

C. attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, received in-depth training in quantitative analysis, and he developed
Incorrect, 'he' developed is wrongly used here. breaks parallelism

D. attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, received in-depth training in quantitative analysis, developing
Incorrect...received..developing

E. attending the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, receiving in-depth training in quantitative analysis, and developing
Incorrectly maintains parallelism among all the 3 (attending, receivng, developing)
The OA is "A". Why B is wrong. Why can't i say that he attended resulting in "receiving..." AND developed....
Is B wrong just bcz a "," is missing before the "and developed".
If B was the correct answer, the sentence would be:

After moving to Switzerland in the 1890's, Albert Einstein attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich, receiving in-depth training in quantitative analysis and developed a foundation for his future work in mathematical physics.

So, the section, from parallelism point of view would be:

After moving to Switzerland in the 1890's, Albert Einstein attended x and developed Y. In other words, After moving to Switzerland in the 1890's, Albert Einstein did two separate things:

1. attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich
2. developed a foundation for his future work in mathematical physics.

But this changes the meaning, since from what the original sentnece clearly implies, Albert Einstein developed foundation as a result of attending the Swiss Federal Polytechnic. Hence, B is not correct.

The -ing form of the verb (used as participles) are often used to depict a cause and effect relationship between the parts of the sentence.

Cause: Albert Einstein attended the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich

Effect: Developing a foundation for his future work in mathematical physics

"receiving" and "developing" are both consequences of the action "attended" so they need to be parallel.
