A star will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole after it passes through a red giant stage, depending on mass.

My choice is D.

Correct use of whether.
"after passing through the red giant stage" modifies star.

I have two theories abt this one and i dont know which one is correct :

1.)
After passing through a red giant stage, depending on its mass, a star

I found the back to back comma separated modifiers to be awkward.

2.)
Whenever there is a fork like situation (a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole). Whether is preferable

I cant think of anything else...i would like to know what others think.

I believe after passing through the red giant should be followed by the star to which the stmt modifies and not depending on the mass
