there are two sentences here that are gramatically correct B and C , As per orignal sentence I went for C

bothe convey different meaning and both fit properly

I agree. B & C have different meanings. B conveys that the monuments are 'older' & C conveys that the monuments are 'as old as'. I am also interested in understanding how I should be reading the author's mind

notice the "2000 years" outside the portion marked for correction. We would never say "I am 25 years as old as my cousin", we would say "I am as old as my cousin".
Once you see a number and a comparison coming up, then you cannot be comparing them as equals. The number will be used to display some relation in the comparison. Greater/lesser/older/younger...

IMO the way to approach the question should be first to ascertain whether "older than" should be used or "as old as"... notice the 3:2 pattern in the answer, it has been discussed very much in almost every material I have read and also on this forum...

Hmm..I got this question wrong and I was confused between and [C] as well. So, what should be the rule of thumb?

When comparing age, weight, height with 'X', use comparative forms like older, heavier, higher/shorter followed by than, INSTEAD of using as X as??

Would that be a correct way of identifying the wrong answer choices?
