Can someone elaborate in detail why B is not correct, because in B it says that the cuts were made in nonsalary compensation such as alloance .... The alloance and night club membership are used as examples of nonsalary compensation

The two things that are compared need to same .

We need to compare APPLES with APPLES and not ORANGES .

Ex : Jack physique is muscular like THAT of John's .

Here Jack's physique is compared with John's physique .

Wrong : Jack physique is muscular like John .

Here John is compared with jacks physique .

Similarly CUTS in nonsalary compensation - needs to be compared to cuts in some thing else .

Hope this helps .

Sorry, but you are incorrect, you have the concept right but the application of the concept here is wrong.

While the base salary for the top five officers of the company did not change from 1990 to 1991, cuts were made nonsalary compensation, as in allowances for overseas assignments and club memberships.

What are "allowances for overseas assignments" and "club memberships". These examples of nonsalary compensations.

A is obviously incorrect, D, E use Like hence incorrect.

C is incorrect because we not comparing cuts in 1 thing to cuts in another thing.

B is the correct answer.

(A) cuts were made nonsalary compensation, as in

(B) cuts were made in such nonsalary compensation as

(C) cuts were made in such nonsalary compensation as those in

(D) cuts in nonsalary compensation were made in areas like

(E) there were cuts made in nonsalary compensation, in areas like
