My pick is D.
There is no need of ; because we use semi-column when both parts on both side can stand on their own.
If you put semi-column there then it makes an incomplete sentence.
Here they is perfectly referring to holidaymakers. So D is fits the bill.

As per my understanding choice E is the correct answer.

Sentences on either side of the semicolon have a subject and a verb.

Also as per llelism sand , sun and palm are compared with centers.

Sand, sun and palm are not having an adjective before them and hence center of entertainment is preferred to entertainment centers

The correct answer joins two sentences with a semi-colon.
A and B use a semi-colon incorrectly.
D needs a semi-colon.
C is not parallel.

These are all nouns, just because the last one - no entertainment - is negative doesn't make it not parallel...right?

E - seems to be redundant. Why do we need the pronoun they.

fell into the trap of just looking at the grammar and not reading the meaning

so change that to E

I think the answer should be E.

As a "," cannot connect to clauses. A semicolon or a conjunction is required to connect to clause. As far as the relationship between two clause that is co-ordinating conjunction or sub-ordinating conjunction, we dont have any conjunction so we just have to use semicolon to connect the two clauses.

My take is "E".
