Life is all about ass; you're either covering it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it, trying to get a piece of it, or behaving like one.

The questions has been discussed earlier. Please search for the explanation.

the Oneida is a group of people
Just replace the Oneida with the Indians

the Oneida is plural so A and B are out. D is wordy, out of E and C , C seems better.

The Oneida is plural? wouldn't it be similar to "the team", ( ie a single group ), and therefore use the singular form of "was".

i'm confused how that Oneida is plural. sure you can replace it with "indians" and make it plural, but you could also replace the singular group "team" with "the teammates".

ex: the team IS going to the game.

the teammates ARE going to the game.

what am i missing here?

also, can "who", as in "who sided" in the original sentence, be parallel with a singular group?

IMO C
A. was the only one of the five-nation Iroquois League who sided
'who' is used incorrectly as a pronoun - 'who' is used for people while 'that'/'which' for league/things
B. was alone of the five-nation Iroquois League when they sided
'they' should be 'it' ,and also the option changes the meaning
C. alone among the five-nation Iroquois League sided
removed the problems seen in A and in C
D. were the only ones out of the five nations of Iroquois League in siding
five nations of Iroquois League ; only ones out of
E. only of the five-nation Iroquois League had sided
the Oneida [verb missing]were only of the five-nation ..

Pls can ne1 check if 'who' when replace with 'that/which' creates ambiguity
[Oneida was the only one of the five-nation Iroquois League] that/which sided with the colonists during the American Revolution.
or
Oneida was the only one of the [five-nation Iroquois League that/which sided with the colonists during the American Revolution]
