ESSAY QUESTION:
"Although the modern information age has opened up channels of communication that never before existed, it, paradoxically, has destroyed the foundation of community by isolating individuals in a technological world that involves little real human interaction."
Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the position stated above. Support your viewpoint using reasons and examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.

RESPONSE:
Information technology has changed the way we communicate everyday at our home or at work.Gone are those days when we had to wait and completely rely on mail posts to send messages.Information technology has provided many options such as email , text messaging , forums , blogs to communicate and spread the message around to the appropriate recipients. Although some may argue that modern information age has isolated individuals from the community and has reduced human interaction, various channels of communication has led to more flexibility and efficient way to communicate with appropriate users.

Through the use of email , text messaging , blogs and forums , users are able to form more strong and large community irrespective of distance and time zones. As an instance, a group interested in nano-technology can shares its experiments , ideas , thoughts across different nations and can help to invent more efficient and economical products. The internet has increased the scope of interacting with large group with similar interests and backgrounds.

Information technology has bridged many gaps and resolved various issues such as time constraints to travel across the globe to attend a meeting and non-accessibility of good institutions in a country .With distance and online education, students can attend the lectures and earn professional degrees even if he is not physically present in that class. This has helped to increase the quality of education reaching remote places in the world. Although some may argue that student may be able to interact more effectively if student would be present physically in a class and interact with other students at same time , information technology has helped to resolve this constraint by letting students interact with other students and teacher at the same time during the class using chat windows.

Information technology has helped to access information that was once buried in books not accessible to everyone and at all times. It has helped to increase awareness and increase knowledge base beyond the scope of community physically around us.It has reduced our dependency on certain resources to access the knowledge , helped to reduce costs by reducing travel across nations, help to set up an environment where various people with can interact and lead to a more productive conversations.

In conclusion , though information age seem to reduce physical interaction among communities , it has helped to cross boundaries of location , age and time and has increased to build strong and large comminities of people with similar interests and help to resolve many communication problems arcoss the globe. It has helped to increase the human interaction by the use of webcameras , uploading vidoes , chat messaging and internet telephony
