I know this is always a very touchy subject.
I am thinking to ask the director (boss of my boss)of my department to write a couple of rec.letters for me for 2010 fall application.
I felt that he is actually the one who really understands the impact/contribution I have had on the company. My direct supervisor is really just another project manager who has not worked on a single project with me since day 1.
The problem is our company has gone thru multiple rounds of layoffs in the last year and my director is actually the one who has the say on employment or not. My direct supervisor has admitted to me before that he has no control over that what-so-ever.
I do respect the opinion of my director and trust him. But in this environment, I simply would not want to jeopardize my work (in terms of promotion, bonus, layoff).
I know the ultimate decision lies on my relationship with my director, just want to see if anyone has had experiences where they might have felt there was repercussion when their employer found out about your intent for MBA (thus meaning that you are potentially leaving)
