Currently, y percent of the members on the finance committee are women and next month, z percent of the men on the finance committee will resign. If no other personnel changes occur, then after the resignations next month, the men who remain on the finance committee will represent what percent of the total finance committee members?

A.(100)(100 - z)(100 - y) / 100^2 - z(100 - y)


B.(100 - z)(100 - y) / 100

C.100 - z)(100 - y)

D.zy / 100 - z

E.z(100 - y) / 100

Let x be the no. of members finance committee
so no. of women = xy/100 so no. of men = (100-y)x/100
no. of men on finance resigning next month = zx/100
so men left = (100-y)x/100 - zx/100 = (100-y-z)x/100
total members = (100-y)x/100 + (100-y-z)x/100 = (200-2y-z)x/100
so %ge = [spoiler](100-y-z)/(200-2y-z)[/spoiler]

r u taking the # of women as x or y ?
r u taking the remaining / total # of men as y or x ?

besides which answer choice as ur answer quoted ??

I have taken total members of the finance committee, including both men and women as x
y is already given as percent of the members on the finance committee are women in the question.

I reached to the answer but it didn't match any of the options..I ams till trying to reach to some of the options posted by you..
are all the options given by you totally correct ?/

The Answer Must be A

(100)(100 - z)(100 - y) / 100^2 - z(100 - y)


consider y =80%T (Women) , z=10% and x=20 %T(Men) [100-80] Total =T assume =100

No. of men in committee = [(100-10)/100]*20/100T =18/100 T
Total members in committee = 18/100 T + 80/100 T = 98/100 T

% men in the committee = [(18/100)/(98/100)]*100 = 1800/98

Now let see the answer choice :
a 100(100-10)(100-80)/100^2 - 10(100-80)= 100*90*20/100^2-200 = 1800/98-----Got it .

b (100-10)(100-80)/100= 90*20/100 = 18 no...

c. 1800 no..

d 10*80/90 no

e 10(20)/100 no

ok that was a nice approach by plug in method ...surely we get the answer but do we have some solution to get to answer algebricallly ...

yes shashank all the answers are correctly posted and are correct.

We can use the plug in #s method . but i wanted to know is there another way to solve this ?

and also which one would be a quicker approach. ??
