Hi all,

I've been working on applications and in the online application section for Recommender Information it asks what is the person's "Relationship to you."

So far I've done two of them and have put "Professional" but I'm not sure if this is correct. What are valid options to put here? I'm assuming it could be one of the following:
  • Professional
  • Personal
  • Current Supervisor
  • Previous Supervisor
  • Current Teammate/Peer
  • Previous Teammate/Peer
Is this correct? Would it better to be more detailed in there or just label the Recommender as a blanket "Professional" relationship?

Thanks,
--Rishi

I'd put more than that. Of course, recommenders need to have a professional relationship to you. But the tool is asking you to specify the actual role.
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

Exactly. They want to know where these people are in the pecking order. Ideally, they should be people who are not colleagues or friends (though they can be that TOO) but supervisors.

Thank you Vineesh and Jon.

This begs another question:
for the Employer and Title section should it be their current employer and title or the employer and title where we worked together?

Thanks,

Current. However, if they have worked with you in a previous company or you have moved to a new company, they should specify the same in the "relationship to you" or " under what capacity you know the applicant".

Agree. Current. Normally there is space in the text of the recommendation to define your relationship and what title he had back then, etc.
