Hello,

I am Ankit from India. I am planning to join business school to make a career switch from IT to Finance.I have experience of around 3 years in software development with decent career progression. Although i have cleared CFA level 2, i lack any professional experience in Finance.

Profile-

Gmat- 710(Q-50, V-36)

Work Ex.-
Worked in MNC as software developer for 2 years. Received few awards and recognition.
Currently working in small startup at intersection of business and technology in a lead role.

Undergrad school-
B.Tech in computer science from reputed college in India. GPA - 3.2

Extra curriculars and volunteer work - Execellant

Would the portray of career switch in my essays hurt the chances of getting into business schools. I mean this is not a logical step from what what i did earlier or doing presently. Am i better off showing my goals in line with my experience.

I am targeting Rotman, Olin, Georgetown and Rochester.Could you tell me my chances of getting into business schools such as Cornell, Tepper and Darden.

Hi and thanks for your post. While I can't give you specific odds of success at the schools on your list, I can tell you that you appear to have compiled a solid list of schools. You have a nice mix of programs and rankings - from target to reach. You may wish to narrow down your list to 6 schools from the current list of 7. I generally advise my clients to apply to between 4-6 business schools. Given the amount of time between now and round 2 deadlines 7 schools might be too many - meaning you may have difficulty finishing all your applications in time.

Keep in mind that you'll need to assemble solid essays (with unique and compelling topic choices) in order to be competitive at the schools on your list. I recommend using a mix of examples from both work and outside activities.
