Hi,
I have a work experience in the finance (specifically for a trading desk in an investment Bank) for 4 years now. However, I have always wanted to work in the Media sector. I plan to apply for an MBA with a media program. However all the recommenders I can think of belong to my current field. And my current supervisor has a good impression on me because he believes that I am very good at my work.

What care should I take while taking a recommendation from him? I am on very good terms with him and I believe he will give me a positive reco, but he can give me a reco only from a finance point of view. Or is it advisable to take a reco from someone who can suggest that I can give my best in a managerial capacity while working in the media sector? (Unfortunately I haven't done any extra curricular activities in the media space and hence I don't know anyone from that field who will give me a recommendation)

The MBA is peraphs the best advanced degree for someone wanting to switch careers. Recommendations do not qualify candidates for a particular industry or speak even to their proficiency in a particular discipline, but rather explore leadership potential, work performance compared to peers, maturity, creativity and general aptitude. In other words, I wouldn't worry about it. Leave it to your potential future employers to determine if you would be a good fit, not your past employers.
