The answer here is that it varies. Certain schools will be lenient, others will not. However, our position on this is fairly straight forward. Do not request exceptions unless necessary. Why exactly does your recommender not want to use the online form? If their reason is "because..." well then that isn't good enough. They're doing you a huge favor but it has to follow the rules.

However, if you choose to pursue this option, call the admissions office and speak to an admissions director to ask. Not the person picking up the phone - speak to someone who actually reads the applications.
